From then on, the people started celebrating the victory of the good of evil, as the festival of Holika Dahan.

 Why is Holi celebrated?

 There are various Vedic and mythological views to celebrate Holi. In the Vedic period this festival has been called 'Navaneshti'. This day is the law of distributing the Prasad by offering the full grain of the field. The word Holi is derived from the word "hola", which means worship of God to get a new and good crop. This grain is called Hola, so it was celebrated as Holikotsava. This festival is considered as a sacrifice of the arrival of the Navsavsar and the celebration of Bantangam. Some people consider this festival as a worship of Agnidev. The birth of Manu is also considered this day. Hence it is also known as monnithithi.
According to another legend Shiva Purana, Lord Shankar had consumed Kamdev with his anger, after the dissolution of Shiva's austerities, the gods convinced Shiva to marry Parvati.
